Ana E. Platero-Prats leads the Multiscale Characterization in Catalysis group at ICP-CSIC. Her research focuses on understanding how atomic and local structure govern the function of porous materials through advanced X-ray characterization, materials chemistry and catalysis.

Dr Edouardos Loukopoulos is a César Nombela - Atracción de Talento Fellow, incorporated at ICP-CSIC since 2026. Previously, he obtained his PhD in Chemistry (University of Sussex, United Kingdom) in 2018. He then held successive postdoctoral positions at the University of Crete (2020-2022, PI: Prof. P.N. Trikalitis) and Universidad Autónoma de Madrid (2022-2025, MSCA fellowship, PI: Dr. Ana Platero-Prats), before joining IFIMAC-UAM as a Junior Group Leader in 2025. He has also been a visiting researcher at Stockholm University (2025) and the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (2025). His research focuses on the synthesis and modification of novel metal-organic compounds to develop advanced functional materials through structure-property correlations. He has received multiple scholarships and grants, and his work has resulted in 30 research articles in multidisciplinary journals (70% as first or corresponding author).

Dr Rodrigo Gil San Millán is a postdoctoral researcher in the group of Ana Eva Platero Prats at ICP-CSIC since 2026. He obtained his PhD degree in 2019 at the University of Granada (Spain, Prof. J. A. R. Navarro group), where he explored new metal-organic framework (MOF) systems for heterogeneous catalysis. During this time, he was also a visiting researcher at NU University (2018, USA, Prof. O. Farha). He was then awarded the Polish Ulam Fellowship (NAWA) and moved to the group of W. Bury (2021, University of Wroclaw, Poland) to develop new catalysts for hydrogen storage systems. After a stay at A. Platero Prats group at UAM (Madrid, Spain), where he specialized in local structure determination techniques (such as PDF and EXAFS), he was awarded the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions Postdoctoral Fellowship at the group of S. Kaskel (2024, TUD Dresden, Germany) to explore advanced flexible MOFs for gas separation.

Michalis Vlachos is a PhD Student at ICMM-CSIC. He obtained his Bsc degree in Physics (2022) and a Msc in Materials Science and Engineering (2024) from the University of Crete (Greece). During his Bachelor’s project and Master’s thesis he focused on the multiscale computational modeling of porous materials like MOFs and ZIFs and their application as carriers for drug encapsulation, collaborating with the Materials Modelling and Design group in the department of Chemistry in the University of Crete, supervised by G. Froudakis.

Miguel Roselló González is a PhD student at ICP-CSIC. He obtained his Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry (2024) and his Master’s degree in Molecular Nanoscience and Nanotechnology (2025) from the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid (Spain). His Bachelor's project and Master's thesis focused on the development of lanthanide-decorated zirconium-based MOFs with applications in organic pollutant sensing. He is currently working on the development of MOF materials for the simultaneous capture and detection of contaminants in water.

Sofía Barragán Soto is a PhD student in Organic Chemistry. She obtained her Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry (2024) and her Master’s degree in Organic Chemistry (2025) from the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid (Spain). Her Bachelor’s project and Master’s thesis focused on the functionalization of MOFs for environmental applications, particularly CO₂ capture. She is currently working on the development and application of MOF-based materials in catalysis, with a particular focus on organocatalysis and photocatalysis.

Syed Muhammad Wahaj Ejaz

Syed Muhammad Wahaj Ejaz is a recent graduate with Masters in Materials sciences from University of Padova, Italy. He obtained his Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Chemistry (2021) from NED University (Pakistan). His master’s thesis was focused on degradative desorption of PFAS saturated Activated Carbon using non-thermal plasma. During his master’s, Wahaj spent his mobility period in Surface Engineering department, Josef Stefen Institute (Slovenia), exploring different plasma techniques for PFAS degradation. Currently he is perusing his Erasmus Traineeship in Ana Eva Platero Prats´ group working on using MOF for efficient capture of CO2.
